长沙汽车电器研究所成立于1961年，受原国家机械工业部的委托，承担汽车电器行业技术归口工作，承担汽车电器、电机、电子产品开发及其鉴定、认证、监督检测工作和汽车电器行业的标准化工作。研究所下设汽车电器检测中心有限责任公司，《汽车电器》杂志社、全国汽标委电器分委会秘书处，生产研发单位。
